Maria completed her undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the National Technical University of Athens. She then pursued her Master’s and PhD degrees as part of an interdisciplinary team at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Cambridge. Her research primarily centred on proteins linked to Parkinson's disease, with the goal of finding novel therapeutic solutions. During her postdoctoral appointment, she studied the structure and function of proteins involved in neurodegeneration and cancer, and designed protein sensors with applications in mechanobiology.
She is currently an Oppenheimer Research Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology, where she is designing DNA-protein nanostructures against intracellular targets in cancer. Additionally, she is a Junior Research Fellow at Lucy Cavendish.
