Our students act and direct plays, go to films, join any number of sports teams, learn to row from scratch, publish their writing, make music, learn coding, volunteer and raise money for local charities, debate politics, become student reps and learn to dance – amongst other things…
We encourage you to join some of the hundreds of clubs and societies across the University and in your academic Department, because we believe that having a healthy life balance makes you more successful as a student and brings you friendships and contacts you wouldn’t otherwise have had.
The Freshers' Fair each October is a good place to start.
We hope you will join and organise activities here in College too. We currently have an art society, a successful boat club, two choirs, a sewing & knitting society, a student magazine and teams for badminton, football and netball. We have societies based on the course (Tripos) such as Lucy Lawyers and the VetMed Society, with their programmes of talks, visits and social events. And we can bring together current students and alumni at networking events in Cambridge and London as part of our careers support programme.
If you can’t find the club you want, the Students’ Union can help you set it up yourself!
Our SU is active in access and widening participation initiatives. For example, it works with Cambridge University Students' Union on the annual Shadowing Scheme which pairs up applicants from state schools with current students for a taste of life at Cambridge.
The Lucy SU is divided between JCR and MCR.
