Ashwiny writes about contemporary issues with a focus on migration and refugees
Dr Ashwiny O. Kistnareddy, Bye-Fellow and Director of Studies in Modern and Medieval Languages, has just signed two contracts for a co-edited volume (Delays, 2021), and a monograph on Vietnamese writing called Refugee Afterlives: Contemporary Diasporic Vietnamese Writing (2023). The latter is one of a series of monographs planned around the themes of migration and refugees. The other titles are Masculinities: (In)Hospitality, Community, Vulnerability (2022) and Refuge: Contemporary Narratives by Refugee Children (2024).
Ashwiny has a long standing interest in issues of violence, racism, the repercussions of war and destitution and forced migration on individuals. Ashwiny completed her PhD in French at Lucy Cavendish College in 2020 and is now Director of Studies in Modern and Medieval Languages and Bye-Fellow at the College. She is broadly interested in contemporary issues of Race, Gender, Identity, Queerness, War, Memory and Affect. She won the Contemporary Women’s Writing Essay Prize in 2019 and received a Special Commendation for the same prize in 2020. Ashwiny has a number of publications forthcoming in Forum for Modern Language Studies (OUP), Journal of Contemporary Women’s Writing (OUP), The British Academy Journal (OUP) amongst others.
